This year’s discussions will address the theme "Regional Perspectives, Policy Responses and Sustainable Development in the Arab Region - Challenges and Opportunities" and will thus mainly focus on the progressive land degradation and its social consequences in the Middle East and North Africa.

Keep your eyes open for an important new conference on Dryland Ecology. Dubai will host the nternational Symposium on Drylands Ecology and Human Security (ISDEH) between 4-7 December 2006. The event is organized by GCC Network for Drylands Research and Development (NDRD) and the Ajman University (AUST) Institute of Environment , Water and Energy.
ISDEHS 2006 is meant to be the first of a series of symposia intended to create an ongoing dialogue between researchers and policy makers from the Arab world with the global scientific community as well as to reposition the ongoing desertification debate within the context of human security.
The Symposium will feature 18 important sessions that cover a wide array of issues related to drought and desertification. The details of the sessions are presented here.
The deadline for abstracts is October 15th 2006 while the notification of Authors about Acceptance of Papers is October 20, 2006.
