Save Jordan's Trees!

Many of you have read or heared about campaigns to save the trees and forests of the Amazon, but this is your chance to prove how much a loyal environmentalist Jordanian and Arab you are by adding your signature to a petition organized by Jordan's environmental civil society against the modifications of the Agricultural law.

The story begins with the Government introducing a one-article modification to the current agriculture law in Jordan to permit the selling of forest areas to investors for establishing "investment projects". The old law prohibited the cabinet to sell any natural forest land to any person or organization, but the increased pressure from investors and capitalists has led to the modification of the law.
The law was issued as an interim law -unconstitutional according to the national agenda- and has been thus rejected by the lower house of parliament. The law will now be discussed by the Senates council.
The petition organized by the environmental civil society in Jordan can be signed by accessing the RSCN website or the special website designed for this campaign entitled "Save Jordan trees"

This is to support the national campaign for saving the small number of trees and few forests. Even if the law was passed, we should stop any possibility of implementing it because selling the few forest land to investors will harm the whole population.
The monitoring should now be focused at the Ministry people, whether in the Ministry itself or the Forestry Department. People at the decisio-making places should be monitoried and campaign should start on them as persons and posts. The Arab Women organization is ready to participate in the protest campaign.
Thank you for telling us

In a country renowned more for its deserts than its trees it seems absolutely ridiculous that such an amendment could be approved by any parliament that considers itself as representing its peoples' interests.

This is not a modification, this is rather a harm for each one of us, and for our kids and all the coming generations.
If there are real investors who want to grow and develop this country, they should go to the desert areas and make it alive, rather than destroying the God given grants that we have.
It's time to wake up,we should all join forces against this new law.
