Aramex first Jordanian Company to commit to reducing carbon emissions

Aramex became the first Jordanian company that declares commitments to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The commitments were displayed in Aramex's "Sustainability report" that was published as an indication of its Social and Environmental Corporate Responsibility package. Aramex has previously announced its participation in the United Nations ‘Global Compact' initiative, a platform created to engage the private sector in positive global corporate practices. Concerned with the human contribution to global warming, Aramex has already set an ambitious goal to become the first carbon neutral total transportation provider worldwide.

In 2006 Aramex published ‘Aramex Values and Principles', an internal document on Code of Conduct which demonstrates its compatibility with the objectives of the Global Compact across ethical, economic, environmental and social dimensions.

In environmental leadership, Aramex has committed to the following indicators in 2007:

1- Design and implement EMS based on ISO14000

2- Begin tracking of environmental KPIs

3- Significantly expand environmental related training.

4- Reduce emissions by 15% per shipment (including NOx and others)

5- Reduce 5% of fuel consumption per shipment.

6- Reduce driving time by 5%

7- Transition of vehicle fleet towards Low Emission Vehicles (LEVs)

8- Purchase at least two hybrid electric cars

9- Reduce water consumption by 5%

10- Reduce paper consumption by 5% and achieve 10% paper recycling.
