In Defence of Life - Arab Environment Watch

Forget about political ideologies, races, religions, ethnicities and nationalities. you needs only to be a human being with a functioning heart to be outraged with the horrendous crimes committed by the Israeli army in Gaza since Dec 27th. Moreover, we shall not forget the long and shameful siege that was imposed on the people of Gaza for 18 months before the military attacks.

This region has witnessed more than its fair share of atrocities against human dignity in the past few decades. However, nothing in this bloody history of slaughter can be compared to the images of destruction and killing of innocent Palestinian children with terrible weapons and war machinery that has no ethical boundaries.

This is painful to a level that is not comprehended. No human being can tolerate such a pain of seeing these photos. Fighters and adults chose their own destinies. Some have the conscious decision of leaving civilian life and joining a military movement to defend their country or whatever they believe in. These people usually are the main targets as they engage in combat.

In this region, it is the children, with their innocent fresh young bodies and unfulfilled dreams who become the victims of a non-discriminatory state terrorism conducted by Israel. With a total of 350 Children dead out of 950 total victims in Gaza until now, this war is being fought between an arsenal of devastating power and the children of Gaza. It happened in Lebanon, it happened in the two Intifadas and now in Gaza and it is a continuous course of action by the Israeli state and not an unfortunate accident.

With this heavy toll of destruction and despair, it becomes very difficult to have a positive attitude. A lot of the things that we used to do on daily basis suddently lose their value and become somehow irrelevant to the most wanted act of stopping this horrible aggression and making sure that it will bever happen again.

We, as environmentalists are always concerned with life and not death. We are a crop of people who cannott function and have any impact without proper conditions of peace and mutual understanding. We celebrate life and diversity and we stand firm against destruction and attrocities. During the coming few days this blog will strive to be a platform for documenting attrocities against life in its bigger context in Gaza and advocate for bringing to justice all the culprits who have contributed to this human tragedy that is consuming all hopes for a better future for this region.
